How to Build a Redwall Website
by Laterose

Step 1: Decide Step 2: Plan | Step 3: Construct | Step 4: Write and Design  | Step 5:  Maintain and Glorify

Step One: Decide

This could be the most difficult step. Yeah, failing at Step One. Anyways, answer the following questions (in order). If your answer to any of them is no, stop reading immediately.
  1.  Are you sure you want to build a website? It's harder than it sounds.
  2. That said, are you sure you'll have the time and energy to run one?  You'll have to type a lot...
  3. Will you be able to accept critiscisim of all varieties? You can't appeal to everyone, you know.
  4. Will you have the patience to deal with spammers, annoying members, and people who can't spell? The fuse cannot be short..
  5. Lastly, will you stick to the true Redwall spirit?
Did you answer yes to all those questions? Good. Now for the next step.

Step Two: Plan

This is probably the most difficult of all the steps. You will have to plan everything. If you don't like to write or type, stop reading right now, because you're not going to get any further.  Okay. Answer the following questions/short answers. Write the answers down on Notepad, Microsoft Word, or just a plain ol' piece of paper.
  • What kind of ROC website are you going to run? RPG, Informational, Fandom, Links, E-zine, News, etc.
  • Will it be a free web hosting (Freewebs, Geocites) or paid domain (Daworldofredwall.net)? If paid, start thinking about web hosts.
  • How big is it going to be? Estimate the number of pages.  10 is small, 25 medium, and more than 50 big.  Also start writing about what the pages will contain and the names of them.
  • Will anyone help you? If so, send an email to them, inviting them to "join you in a glorious quest for riches within the ROC." Or anything else.
  • Think of a creative and original name for the website. (This is where I failed.) Base it off the theme, content, music, whatever.
  • Design a logo for the site. Very useful for advertising reasons.
  • Write down a few- ok, a LOT of topics or activities you know you can program/type (and the websurfers will be able to do, easily).
  • Lastly, state a few reasons why your website is unique or different from all the others.  Writing It IS SO KEWL!! does not count.
Great! You now have the blueprints of your website. Now onto step three.

Step Three: Construct

Pick your paid or free web hosting ( I personally recommend Geocities or Freewebs), sign up using the information you planned, go to your control panel, and click the edit symbol next to your home page.

Put in the name of your website on the header.Upload the logo and try to put that next to the header as well. Write the admin, and anyone else you might want to add, namely Brian Jacques (the disclaimer), and the copyright on the footer (bottom of the page).  Those things should be on EVERY page.

Of course your site needs a slogan! It can be something about the purpose of your site (The ROC's Most Efficient E-zine) or feature (Tons of activites for the members!), or anything else related to Redwall. Of course, try to be truthful. Put that below the header.

Now it's time to create the pages! You should already have ideas for the title and content of the pages, so just continue adding new pages until you're satisfied. Create links on the main page to all the big subpages within your site.

Next, it's the hard part. Writing and Designing.

Step Four- Writing and Designing
